Chris Perkins Talks “Jump Force”, Back To You Music Video, and more!

Last month, upcoming artist Chris Perkins surprised fans by announcing weekly YouTube videos that were uploaded every Friday throughout July. These videos ranged from: behind the scenes content, new songs, as well as visual content for previously released songs. We took the time to interview him to find out what he’s been up to and what’s coming up next.

CSOM: Hello Chris! After a long period of silence, what made you decide to finally put these YouTube video now?”

Chris Perkins: “I wanted to put these videos out because it’s stuff I’ve been working on for a while. It’s way past due for them to come out. I decided to put them out now to give me more time to finish up the new music. This gives fans something to hold on to and let them know I’m still here along with the chance to have closure with the song “Back To You” since I’ve been trying to promote that song for a while. But now I’m finally ready to move onto the next chapter”

CSOM: “The final drop of the month was a surprise that contained your new song, “Jump Force” that was paired with an accompanied “blast from the past” music video. What can you tell me about that video?”

CP: “This video was a fun last minute idea I came up with where I wanted to take it back to the DJReplayReplay days where I would sit in front of my tablet and record videos of me eating ice cream for my old YouTube channel in middle school. There wasn’t anything serious about the idea because the track itself is short and playful so I created a video to match the song. I’m excited to have released this song next because many of my friends have been asking for it and it’s a groovy song that’s fun to play live.”

CSOM: “It’s a hilarious video that fans are certain to enjoy especially the long term ones who knew how you started. But right before this video, you released the highly anticipated “Back To You” music video which contained eye-catching visual shots of you playing multiple instruments with LED light backgrounds. What was it like to create your own music video? How has the reaction been?”

CP: “This music video was a huge test. Not only for the audience, but for myself to see if I can create my own visual content to match my music because it’s all stuff I’ve wanted to learn but never took the time to, until now. The video was shot, edited, and directed by myself so I had 100% creative control and got to push my limits. That’s the main reason why I went silent for so long. I went to Europe last year, promoted my music out there, and came to the realization that it’s hard to promote yourself without having visual content to show off. This is a necessary step in order to be an “artist” because before I viewed myself as only a musician since I was creating what everyone was hearing. Now, I’m taking it up a notch and I’m in control of what you see. The feedback has been amazing because everyone is super supportive about the whole thing. As we speak, the video has over 100 views on YouTube and received the most likes a video has on my channel. It feels good knowing something you’ve worked hard on pays off. Thank you everyone for providing me this playground to explore my ideas.”

CSOM: “So what’s next for you Chris Perkins?”

CP: “New music. Tons of it. My next single is getting wrapped up. More information on that soon. I’m hoping people continue to enjoy these videos so it can hold them over until the new stuff arrives. As for after that, as long as I stick to my deadlines more stuff will drop later this year. My plans always change so I don’t want to give away too much just yet,” He laughs.

Avery Harden Is Drippin “Fiji” With Hot New Summer Single

By: Chris Perkins

“SOMEBODY GOTTA SEE ME!” boasts Avery Harden in the intro of his latest single, “Fiji”. While other rappers are after the best “juice” and “sauce”, Harden’s focus is the pursuing the highest quality of water: FIJI. “I really like Fiji water and wanted that “catchy, replay value” song so I played around with the wave hip hop lingo and added my own consciousness to it,” Avery explains. “It was all meant to be playful and fun, nothing too serious.” The new single along with the music video were released last Friday and already, the song has risen to the #1 most popular song on his Spotify page. When asked why put the song out now, Harden responded, “I had a lot of back and forth because of the climate but decided to let it loose 1. It’s been a while since I put out a track and 2. With this elevated climate, I have a hard time with tension and confrontation so giving good vibes to my fans seemed like the move.”

Shoutout to fellow artist Cam Archer (@camarcher) for being featured on the track, Dylan Kusch (@dylankusch) for tackling the production, and 5MITH (@iam5mith) for mixing and mastering this thirst-quenching track. Go support their works as well if you enjoy what you’re hearing.

Director Timothy Cruz supports Harden’s vision for a laidback song with an accompanied music video loaded with refreshing visuals. The music video captures the island setting and doesn’t fail to deliver the energy that Harden gives off on the track. Harden wanted to stray away from complexity and only contain the essentials: beautiful women, having fun, and LOTS of FIJI water. Harden even goes to the extent of spending $1500 just on FIJI Water alone for the video! Side note: FIJI should take advantage of this promotion and use this for a commercial.

Get in on the new #FijiChallenge and share your videos on Tik Tok, Instagram, and everywhere else. Make sure you tag Avery Harden and play the song Fiji in the background to help promote the track! Go grab a bottle of FIJI, your cell phone and start recording!

If you’ve just discovered him, Avery Harden is a LA based artist that was blessed with opportunities to open for artists such as Young Thug, Hopsin, and along with other big names. He’s known internationally and went to the length of independently booking an Australian tour in 2018 and 2019. Check out his latest album, Atlantis along with the rest of his discography that contains 100 songs. Currently, “Fiji” serves as a standalone single and Harden has plans to drop more singles throughout the year to continue growing his fanbase. Go stream your new favorite song of the summer!

FS Studios Talk “Quarantining It Cool”, New Music, And Life At Home With Group Debut

By: Chris Perkins

If you’ve been bored in quarantine and need some new entertainment, look no further. This new group has taken advantage of their newfound “freedom” in quarantine by putting together the YouTube channel “FS Studios”. FS Studios is comprised of brothers Andrew and Ryan Fremont-Smith who come from Newburyport, Massachusetts. The two brothers recall their long history with music, tracing back to their days at Ipswich High School. “There was a great music program, and so from there we both learned how to play a multitude of instruments,” Andrew reminisces. When asked about what instruments they played, Andrew responded with “Trombone, bass trombone, euphonium, piano, and guitar but Ryan learned alto sax, tenor sax, and bass guitar along with piano and guitar as well”.

The FS Studios channel made its debut back in May with original song “Quarantining It Cool”accompanied with a laid back music video highlighting what the brothers have been up to in the current climate. Typically I’m not crazy about songs focused about quarantine, but this song combines elements of R&B and Soul to provide you with a song that’ll soothe your anxieties and concerns about the world. This song puts Ryan Fremont-Smith in the spotlight as he exclusively wrote, produced, and played the instruments you could hear on the track. Born out of the misfortune of losing gigs and moving back home from St. Petersburg, Florida due to COVID-19, Ryan shortly learned that this was a blessing in disguise as it gave him the chance to relax and enjoy home life with his family. “Well if I have to quarantine, I might as well quarantine it cool” Ryan proclaims. And the rest is history. Meanwhile, his brother Andrew directed the music video along with the video production.

Quarantine life has been treating them well because their parents were able to keep their jobs thankfully since schools switched to online. “Our dad is a fifth grade music teacher so a lot of our quarantine has been assisting them with tech problems such as recording videos so that’s where the YouTube channel stemmed from,” Andrew explains.

Although, they only have original music and covers currently on the channel, Andrew elaborates that FS Studios will grow and prosper into much more including comedy sketches, more original music, and even a potential weekly sports podcast. “Although Ryan and I may not be together in these ventures, but it will always involve one of us” Andrew reassures. This is exemplified with their latest video only featuring Andrew in the spotlight as he performs a Simon and Garfunkel cover.

Check out Ryan Fremont’s brand new single, “Pay The Price” out now on their YouTube channel! This song pays tribute to those who have fallen victim to police brutality which is extremely relevant with the current state of our country. You can keep up with FS Studios on Instagram @fs_studios_gram or on Facebook @fsstudiosfb.

Hot Chelle Rae Returns With Juicy New Single “Tangerine”

“Tangerine, you’re all the color I need”

-Tangerine (2020)

After the re-emergence of Hot Chelle Rae with comeback single “I Hate LA” in 2019, the boys are back and better than ever with the release of highly anticipated “Tangerine” which shares its name with their upcoming US tour.

“Tangerine” was teased multiple times on the band’s social media during the months leading up to their comeback creating that initial demand for the song to be released. The excitement sparked HCR fans to create their own communication with the band by flooding their social media accounts with tangerine emojis and tangerine (orange) heart emojis as they patiently awaited for their new favorite song. And on February 21st, 2020 their wishes came true.

Jerrod Bettis takes production credit and the result is a track that feels like a breath of fresh air. Thanks to Bettis, Hot Chelle Rae locks into a new sound that’s perfect for them. The song opens up with with refreshing synths and snaps that accompany Ryan Follesé’s citrusy vocals as he delivers the first verse. “Tangerine” tells the story of a woman who is sweet yet has sour intentions when Follesé sings about how she’s taken all his money and sanity. But at the end of the day, Follesé is still craving more of her when she leaves. In the pre chorus, the rhythm section kicks it up a notch when the bass and drums kick in. If you aren’t dancing along by now, you certainly will be during the chorus which will have you singing your own personal duet with Follesé. Right before the bridge, the band’s lead guitarist Nash Overstreet delivers a slick, distorted guitar riff which fills in that final hole and completes the track when it returns at the end of the song.

Listening to this track will definitely give you your daily dose of Vitamin C and coincidentally the song finds itself within the musical key of C. By the end of the song you’ll be wishing it was longer so the fun never ends. Once again, Hot Chelle Rae proved their hiatus was worthwhile as they reached a new level of songwriting mastery along with finding their groove. This single precedes their upcoming EP which is expected to be released before the band embarks on The Tangerine Tour which starts on March 16th at the Crescent Ballroom in Phoenix, AZ.

Luke Swierczek Enters The Music Industry with His Debut EP

By: Chris Perkins

Released: October 15, 2019

I wrote these songs when inspiration struck me, so I immediately got to writing!

Luke Swierczek

On October 15, 2019, rock n’ roll’s newest artist, Luke Swierczek began his musical journey with his debut EP, Pronounced Sware-Zak. His EP contains tracks such as the catchy “Stubborn”, the soothing “Nightwalk Reminiscing”, and the psychedelic closer “Doors of Perception”. The title of the EP was named because “Polish last names are hard to pronounce so I decided to clear the air on that” which also adds a sense of authenticity due to the songs being his personal experiences through life. “I wrote these songs when inspiration struck me, so I immediately got to writing!”

“Pride, comes in many a different form. Pride, may cause you and your love to be torn”

“Stubborn” (2019)

Pronounced Sware-Zak opens with the Beatles-esque track “Stubborn” which takes you back to the 60’s once you hear the infectious opening guitar riff. “Stubborn” serves as his break-up anthem as the song discusses a failed relationship due to his past selfishness. Swierczek recalls “Stubborn” being the first track that started the EP claiming, “It wrote it when I was a heartbroken little teenage boy in the summer of ’16”. This track contains Swierczek’s favorite lyric off the EP, “Pride, comes in many a different form. Pride, may cause you and your love to be torn”. “Stubborn” is my favorite off the EP because I can’t help but snap along to this ear-candy. The theme is something that commonly happens so some fans can resonate with it. I’d love to see him do a remix with a full band behind him to give it a fuller effect.

Next up on the EP is the desert-rock track, “Nightwalk Reminiscing” which is a soothing instrumental track, perfect for a nightly walk. “‘Nightwalk Reminiscing’ came from when I would talk walks in the area around my house all the time” Swierczek recounts. This track is played on an acoustic guitar which makes it all the more calming as he strums through the tune.

“Doors of Perception” is the big finisher to the EP as it closes this chapter of his life with a 2 minute instrumental guitar solo which gives off a Pink Floyd inspiration. The true inspiration from the track comes from an artist by the name of Bane’s World. This dreamy track was written after a bad LSD trip explaining, “I’m not proud of this song’s inspiration…but this song is my favorite out of the bunch”. Coincidentally, this tracked was loved by fans of Swierczek as well, racking up the most Spotify streams out of the three.

Lastly, Luke Swierczek would like to shout out Jason Baxter for helping him produce this EP. He plans to put out new music in 2020. But for now, check out Pronounced Sware-Zak on all streaming services. Spotify link provided below.
